Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a new fluorocyclohexane derivative having low viscosity, excellent in compatibility and high-speed responsiveness in blending it with a liquid crystal composition, useful as a compounding ingredient for the liquid crystal composition.
CONSTITUTION: This compound is shown by formula I (R is a 1-10C alkyl; (k), (m) and (n) are each 1 or 2; X is trans CH=CH or C≡C and when (k) is 1, X may be CH2-CH2; H in the benzene ring in formula I may be substituted with F) such as 1-(1-trans-pentenyl)-4-(4,4-difluorocyclohexyl)-benzene. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound of formula II [R1 is a (F-substituted) lower alkyl or (substituted) phenyl] with a compound of the formula, (R2)2B-CH=CH-R [R2 is OH, a straight-chain, branched chain or cyclic alkyl (oxy) and (R2)2 may mutually form a ring and be a (substituted) benzodioxy] or a compound of the formula, H-C≡R-R in the presence of a metal catalyst and a basic substance.
