Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain an effervescent product useful for preparing an oral rehydration solution for treating diarrhea, containing an oligosaccharide and/or a disaccharide, an amino acid and an alkalizing substance. CONSTITUTION: This effervescent product contains an oligosaccharide (e.g. maltodextrin) and/or a disaccharide (e.g. lactose) as an energy carrier, an amino acid, further a bicarbonate and/or a carbonate and a bicarbonate precursor as an alkalizing substance. An oral rehydration solution is prepared directly by compression without an auxiliary substance or optionally adding a lubricant. The objective substance is obtained by preparing the solution into an effervescent tablet or effervescent powder. The oral rehydration solution obtained after dissolving the effervescent product has an ideal electrolyte composition. Consequently, loss of electrolyte caused by diarrhea is sufficiently compensated and absorption of water from intestine is promoted.
