PURPOSE: To fold a flat soft material always in an accurate position by providing the flat soft material with it means for forming a flexible axis perpendicularly intersecting to the direction of carrying the soft material in an apparatus for folding the flat soft material while carrying the material and by folding the flat soft material on the flexible axis.

CONSTITUTION: At the time of folding a flat soft material (hereinafter referred to as product) 1 such as sanitary napkin double, the product 1 is first supplied to a flexible axis-forming part, 2 by an inlet carrier part 4 and a flexible axis 11 is formed in a predetermined folding position by the engagement of the projecting stripe 21a of a projecting-type block 21 with the recessed stripe 22a of a recessed-type block 22. Then, the product 1 is carried to a folding part 3 by an intermediate carrier part 5, and when the tip 12 of the product 1 coincides with the attraction surface of a first attraction projecting curved-surface body 31, the tip 12 is attracted to the attraction surface and drawn into the rotating attraction projecting curved-surface body 31 side. Also, after the product 1 moves by the length of a folding width, folding is performed in such manner that the rear half part 14 of the product 1 is attracted to and drawn into the attraction surface of a second attraction projecting curved-sum- face body 32.
