To stably lock/hold the opening state of a folding umbrella including a multi-stage expansible metal rod with the use of nested pipes.

The folding umbrella includes: the multi-stage expansible metal rod 10 with the use of the nested pipes, which is obtained by slidably fitting a plurality of element pipes 10a-10d different in diameter stepwise in order of diameter; folding ribs 40 bent/extended by the vertical movement operation of a lower runner 22 fitted to the metal rod; and a stop spring 13 which is arranged at the upper side of the metal rod and locks the lower runner 22 so as to be removable from a lower part when the umbrella is opened. The lower runner 22 includes a variable mechanism for reducing a fitting hole diameter with the metal rod 10 at the lock position by the stop spring 13.
