To obtain a food and a beverage having a slight side effect, alleviating stress lesion in climateric, having excellent safety by making the food and the beverage include a climateric lesion alleviating substance extracted from cacao beans with an aqueous solution of ethanol, etc.
The food and the beverage contain preferably 0.1-20%, more preferably 0.2-10% of a climateric lesion alleviating substance such as an extract which is obtained, for example, by stirring 100 pts.wt. of cacao beans such as defatted cacao mass, etc., with 300-800 pts.wt., preferably 400-700 pts.wt. of ethanol or an aqueous solution of ethanol having the ratio of water to ethanol of 60/40 to 0/100, preferably 30/70 to 0/100 at a normal temperature for several hours to 48 hours, preferably 24 hours, filtering or centrifuging the solution to give an extracted solution, distilling away ethanol contained in the extracted solution under reduced pressure. The intake of the extract from cacao beans is preferably 10-500 mg/kg weight/day.
