FORMAT CONVERSION SIGNAL PROCESSING METHOD FOR IMAGE SIGNAL AND ITS CIRCUIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent image quality deterioration attended with format conversion signal processing by selecting a signal processing parameter according to the system of an input image signal and the display format.
SOLUTION: A selection circuit 4 selects a signal series SP in the case that an input image signal S1 is an interlace scanning TV signal, or selects a signal series S1 in the case that the signal S1 is a noninterlace scanning system EDTV signal, a personal computer image signal or an HDTV signal to outputs a signal S2. A horizontal scaling section 5 applies horizontal K-L transformation of horizontal magnification/reduction of the signal S2 and its output signal S3 is inputted to a vertical scaling section 6. Then an image quality improvement section 8 converts an image signal S4 resulting from applying vertical K-L transformation, vertical magnification/reduction processing and format conversion into a 3-primary color RGB signal as a signal S5. It is inputted to a multiplexer section 9, in when other 3 primary color image signal S7 is multiplexed onto the signal S5 to outputs a signal S6 in matching a display system format. Thus, the image quality deterioration attended with signal processing is not caused and the capacity of the memory in used is reduced.
