PURPOSE: To eliminate color mixing and to obtain a color filter having good color separability by forming a dyeable resin film on transparent electrodes, masking points where dyeing is not required with the resin film and dyeing the resin film by using electrophoresis.
CONSTITUTION: The transparent electrodes 101 of ITO, etc. are formed on a transparent substrate 100 and the resin film 102 consisting of gelatin, etc. is formed thereon. A photoresist 103 is coated thereon. Light 106 is irradiated by a mercury lamp through a glass plate 105 having a mask 104 of a prescribed pattern to expose the photoresist, then the exposed part constitutes a dyeing resistant mask 107. Lead wires 108 are connected to the transparent electrodes 106 and the substrate is immersed in a dyeing liquid 109 for electrophoretic dyeing. The transfer of the dye into the resin film 102 via a non-mask part 111 arises when DC is passed between said liquid and a counter electrode 110. A dyed region 112 is formed only to the resin film under the non-mask part 111 by such dyeing and the resin film 2 under the mask 107 is not dyed at all.
