PURPOSE: To obtain a fuel battery which can be handled easily and provided with a sufficient strength even if a matrix layer is made thin because the both electrodes serve as supporting bodies, by allowing a mixture consisting of carbonate and matrix basic material to maintain a proper viscosity by using binder, thus permitting coating onto the electrode.
CONSTITUTION: A mixed alkaline metal salt consisting of lithium carbonate and potassium carbonate is sufficiently mixed with γ-lithium aluminate, and ethanol solution of polyvinylbutyral is added into the above mixture, which is well stirred to form slurry substance. Said substance is spread onto an Ni sintered body which serves as one electrode and whose edge part is subjected to coating 4 with alumina through plasma spraying beforehand, and dried at 100°C. An Ni-Cr alloy sintered body which serves as the other electrode and whose edge part is treated similary to case of the Ni sintered body described the above is stacked on the Ni electrode described the above, and the both bodies are heated to 600°C with a temperature increasing rate of 100°C/hr under a pressure of 5kg/cm2, and further kept at 600°C for 2∼3hr, and then the temperature is lowered. Handling of thus obtained electrolyte layer 3 is very easy because said electrolyte layer 3 is fixed between electrodes 1 and 2 in thickness of 200mμ. Further, the current-voltage characteristic in the case when the laminated body operates as cell is superior, and the loss of voltage due to internal resistance is also very little.
