To form a surface-hydrophilic and highly weatherable shaped article, by shaping a compsn. contg. a hydrophobic polymerizable compd. having an isocyanuric skeleton and an unsatd. group, and a photopolymerization initiator, contacting it with a hydrophilic compound contg. an unsatd. double bond, then irradiating it with an active light.
After shaping a photopolymerizable comps., it is irradiated with an active light to be precured, and in the state in which the shaped article has an unsatd. double bond at least on the surface, it is irradiated mith an active light to be completely cured while contacting the surface of the precured shaped article with a hydrophilic liquid contg. an unsatd. double bond-contg. hydrophilic compd. The method for procuring is suitable for cases where the viscosity of the shaped article is low or a constituent of the photopolymerizable compsn. is easily compatible to the hydrophilic liquid. By these methods, a material which has a surface with sufficient hydrophilicity and durability and besides has none of the degradation of performance which is accompanied by the provision of hydrophilicity is obtained.
