Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain an improved portable forward searching infrared unit suitable to be hand held by individual soldier or mounted on a tripod.
CONSTITUTION: The forward searching infrared unit comprises an enclosure, a reflector 40 receiving infrared energy from the visual field, and a receiver receiving infrared energy from the reflector 40 to product an output indicative of the infrared image of the visual field. The receiver is enclosed in the enclosure and the reflector 40 is disposed on the outside of the enclosure and fixed collapsibly thereto. The reflector 40 assumes a first attitude during operation of the apparatus and assumes a second collapsed attitude more compact than the first attitude when the apparatus is not operated.
