PURPOSE: To provide a separate type freezer which eliminates a problem of lack of oil by recovery oil flowing out with discharged gas during a cooling operation and which performs as a suction accumulator during a heating operation and provides a high reliable operation for both cooling and heating operations.

CONSTITUTION: During a cooling operation, both discharged gas discharged out of a compressor 1 and oil mixed in the discharged gas are set in a liquid recovery device 7 after they come out of a four-way changing-over valve 2 and then oily liquid containing a large amount of oil therein is recovered by this liquid recovery device 7. During heating operation, absorbing fluid flowing out of the heat exchanger 3 on the heat source side is poured into the liquid recovery device 7 before reaching the compressor 1 and liquid component is recovered from gas component.
