Abstract:

To disclose a microstructure optical fiber made into a Fresnel zone.

The fiber consists of concentric zones wherein each zone is defined by discontinuities in a refractive index. The refractive index within each zone may either be steady or may vary so as to make each zone be a section of a parabola or a hyperbola. The fiber may be used as a lens, for example for coupling light between fibers with mutually different core sizes.
