To provide a simply-structured friction damper which is inexpensively manufactured, does not requires frequent maintenance, is easily installed, and exhibits high energy absorbing performance.
The friction damper 1 includes a first member 2, which is fixed to one relatively shiftable structure section side and has a consecutive wavy uneven shape formed on the surface, and a second member 5, which is fixed to the other relatively shiftable structure section side and includes a case 6 inserted into the first member 2 freely movably. Inside the case of the second member 5, a friction member 7 having a wavy uneven shape 8 engaging with the wavy uneven shape of the first member 2 is housed while being prevented from moving axially and pressed and energized to the first member 2 side via an elastic member 9.
