To provide a friction material for DP for which fade performance under elevated temperatures and high loads are required, high in coefficient of friction even at elevated temperatures higher than 350°C and high speed-reducing region in making an AMS fade test, good in fade performance, and also high in abrasion resistance.

The friction material comprises a fibrous base material, a binder and a filler, wherein the filler is characterized by essentially containing 10-16 vol.% of coke, 5-10 vol.% of cashew dust and 7-14 vol.% of non-calcinated vermiculite.
