Abstract:

To provide a friction material which exhibits improved braking performance at a high speed and improved fading characteristics without any adverse influence on the rotor-attacking properties.

The friction material includes a fibrous base material, a binder, and a friction modifier, wherein the friction modifier is free from cashew dust and rubber, but contains graphite and two or more ingredients selected from calcium carbonate, barium sulfate and mica. Specifically, it is preferable that the friction modifier contains 5-20 mass% of graphite and 10-50 mass% of two or more ingredients selected from calcium carbonate, barium sulfate, and mica, relative to the total of the friction material.
