Abstract:

To obtain a friction member which has high rust-preventing ability, excellent adhesiveness and heat resisting property, a little appearance of sludge, and facilitates process control.

In the friction member built by forming a chemical conversion treatment film of phosphoric acid metal salt between a backing metal and a non-asbestos system friction material obtained by molding and hardening a non-asbestos system friction material composition of which main components bonded to the surface of the backing metal are a fiber substrate, a binding material and a filler; the friction member and a method for manufacturing thereof characterized in that a breaking load of the friction member in unused stage measured in conformity with JIS D4422 is 9 Mpa or greater, and a ratio of an area which the friction material bonds to the backing metal surface before a shearing to an area which the friction material bonds to the backing metal surface after the shearing (adhesion area rate) is 90% or more.
