To obtain a front plate having not only an antireflection function but a function to shield against near IR rays, a function to shield against electromagnetic waves and a proper color compensation function by forming a visible ray filter layer which contains dyes and a polymer binder and which absorbs visible rays.

This front plate of an image display device is equipped with one or two transparent supporting bodies 4, 6, a visible ray filter layer 5 which contains dyes and a polymer binder and which absorbs visible rays, a shielding filter layer 2 having either a function to shield against IR rays or a function to shield against electromagnetic waves or both of the functions, and an antireflection layer 1 having an antireflection function against visible rays. Base coating layers are preferably formed between the plastic transparent supporting body 4 and a hard coating layer 3 and between the plastic transparent supporting body 4 and the filter layer 5 so as to obtain enough adhesion strength. The filter layer 5 and the glass transparent supporting body 6 can be easily adhered by using, for example, a commercially available acrylic adhesive.
