PURPOSE: To execute an optimum control of a general wheel-turn by providing a distance measuring means for measuring whether a distance is long or short by irradiating a beam havig a directivity onto a road surface being at a prescribed distance in front of a car body and photodetecting its reflected light.
CONSTITUTION: A front road surface state detecting device is constituted of an optical distance sensor 2 for emitting a laser beam having a directivity to the prescribed direction, photodetecting a reflected light from an object (in this case, a road surface) 3, and measuring a distance to it, and a road surface state deciding circuit 4 for deciding an uneven state of a front road surface. In this way, an uneven state of a front road surface in the advance direction of an automobile is foreknown, and an optimum control of a suspension, etc. which cause no delay by feed forward can be executed.
