To provide a cut chip disposal method capable of reducing the volume of the cut chips collected in a collecting tank in machining a frozen bio-sample.
A collecting tank 2 opens upward in the bottom section of a machining chamber. In the collecting tank 2, water 3 is kept in reserve. The machining chamber 1 and collecting tank 2 are enclosed with heat insulation materials 6. The temperature in the machining chamber 1 is controlled in the range that cut chips 4 do not thaw, on the other hand, the temperature in the collecting tank 2 is controlled not to freeze the water 3. When frozen bio- samples are machined with this device, the cut chips 5 collected in the collecting tank 2 thaw due to the contact with the water 3, becoming smaller in bulk than that in the state that they were piled up in a frozen state. On the other hand, the cut chips 4 remaining in the machining chamber 1 are kept frozen without thawing. These cut chips 4 are collected by letting them fall in the collecting tank 2 with a brush, pallet or the like.
