To achieve small size as a fuel cell and improve positioning accuracy of separators.
An MEA (membrane electrode assembly) 1 is constructed by forming an oxidant electrode side gas diffusion electrode 15 on one side of a solid polyelectrolyte membrane 13 and a fuel electrode side gas diffusion electrode 17 on the other side respectively. By clipping the MEA 1 by a oxidant electrode side separator 3 and a fuel electrode side separator 5, a unit cell is constituted and a fuel cell stack is made by laminating the unit cells in a plurality of layers. By forming each separators 3, 5 in a corrugated form, an oxidant gas passage 31 is formed between the oxidant electrode side separator 3 and the MEA 1 and a fuel gas passage 33 is formed between the fuel electrode side separator 5 and the MEA 1 respectively, and a cooling water passage 35 is formed between each separators 3, 5 of mutually adjoining unit cells. Further, the contact part of the protruded parts 3a, 5a of each separators 3, 5 of these mutually adjoining unit cells is made a positioning part consisting of a mutually engaging concave face 3a1 and convex face 5a1.
