To provide a technology for suppressing performance degradation and deterioration of a fuel cell caused by the generation of negative voltage.
A fuel cell system 100 comprises: a fuel cell 10 in which a plurality of power generation bodies 11 are stacked; a cell voltage measurement unit 91 which detects the generation of negative voltage in the power generation bodies 11; a control unit 20 which controls the output of the fuel cell 10; and an integrated current value measurement unit 21 which measures an integrated current value determined by the time integration of current output from the fuel cell. The control unit 20 stores in advance a correspondence relationship between the integrated current value allowed for the fuel cell 10 and the current intensity allowed for the fuel cell 10 during a period when a negative voltage is generated. If a negative voltage is detected, the control unit 20 executes output restriction processing to restrict the output of the fuel cell 10 in such a manner that the output remains within an operation allowable range determined by the integrated current value and the current intensity in the correspondence relationship.
