To control the occurrence of the wide-range stay of impurities in a fuel cell.
The fuel cell system is equipped with: a membrane electrode conjugant which is a combined body of an electrolyte film 11, a catalyst layer 12, and a diffusion layer 13: a pair of separators 14 pinching the membrane electrode conjugant: fuel gas passages 143a which are arranged in the separators 14 to supply fuel gas to an anode: a partition member 144 which classifies the fuel gas passages 143a into an upstream passage 145 and a downstream passage 146: a fuel gas inlet manifold 141 which guides fuel gas into the upstream passage 145: and a fuel gas exit manifold 142 which guides fuel gas out of the downstream passage 146. The partition member 144 is so arranged that a flow passage area of the downstream passage 146 is smaller than that of the upstream passage 145. The anode is separately arranged by the partition member 144 to each of corresponding portions of the upstream passage 145 and the downstream passage 146.
