PURPOSE: To suppress fluctuation in the quantity of fuel injection by further pressurizing a part of the pressure fuel supplied to a unit injector by a plunger for injection, and for the remainder of the fuel restored in a fuel tank by placing a pressure governing valve that openes at a stated pressure, in a fuel exhaust passage.
CONSTITUTION: Pressure fuel is supplied from a fuel pump 100 via fuel supply tubes 101, 103, and so on. Unit injectors A-F in each air cylinder pressurize the fuel pressure by means of extension movement through the electrification of a piezoelectric device in an actuator 70 installed in each injector, whereby a plunger is driven so as to further increase the fuel pressure and to inject the fuel. The remainder of the fuel not injected is exhausted to a fuel tank 111 via an exhaust fuel collecting pipe 113, a fuel exhaust pipe 114, and so on. A pressure governing valve 115 that opens at a stated pressure is placed in the fuel exhaust pipe 114, and the pressure of all of the pressure fuel present in the range from a discharge port of a fuel pump 100 to the inside of the exhaust fuel collecting chamber 113 is thus maintained at a stated pressure.
