Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure detection of failure of a spill valve before the overrun of an internal combustion engine.
SOLUTION: This device comprises a supply passage to supply fuel to a pump chamber that expands and shrinks according to reciprocation of a plunger, and a spill valve allowing a fuel to escape from the pump chamber. The opening and closing of the valve are controlled according to an injection quantity command value Q'FIN computed based on operation conditions including the speed of an engine NE and the opening of accelerator. A supercharge pressure reference value PIMBASE is computed by a superchage pressure sensor that detects a supercharge pressure PIM of a supercharger according to the engine speed NE and the injection quantity command value Q' FIN (Step 200). Comparing the supercharge pressure PIN with the supercharge pressure reference value PIMBASE (Step 210), abnormality of close condition of the valve is detected, and in the case of abnormality, a fuel shut valve in the supply passage is closed (Step 230).
