PURPOSE: To provide a fuel or lubricating oil compsn. which has excellent dispersibility, inhibited viscosity-increasing action, and improved transportation, storage stability, and reduced handling cost by comprising a specified oleaginous substance and a product of a reaction between a specified olefin polymer and an unsatd. acid.

CONSTITUTION: This fuel or lubricating oil compsn. comprises: (A) a fuel or a lubricating oil; and (B) a hydrocarbyne-substd. 4-10C dicarboxylic acid, anhydride or esterification product which is a product of a reaction between an olefin polymer of a 2-10C monoolefin (B1) having an no. average mol.wt. of 1,500 to 5,000 and a 4-10C monounsatd. acid compd. (B2), 1.05 to 1.25 (on average) dicarboxylic acids, anhydrides, or ester portions per mol. of the component B1. Pref., the content of the component B, when the component A is a lubricating oil, is 0.01 to 15 (wt) %, particularly 0.1 to 10%.
