Title:
FUEL VAPOR ADSORBING AIR CLEANER ELEMENT FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5498416
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide an air cleaner element with a high, stable performance and a lower cost by partially bonding a filter medium containing an activated carbon fiber for adsorbing fuel vapor solidly to a filter medium for air cleaning.

CONSTITUTION: A filter medium 14 containing an activated carbon fiber is partially bonded solidly to a filter medium 13 for air cleaning to form an air cleaner element 8. With this arrangement, the filter mecium 14 is equal in surface area to the filter medium 13, providing a larger surface area with the less thickness. Accordingly, deterioration in the function of an air cleaner due to reduction in the size of the filter medium 13 and various problems caused by the increase in the size of air cleaner cases 5 and 6 for higher capacity of the activated carbon can be eliminated. In addition, since the surface area of the filter medium 14 is large enough, the speed thereof for absorbing or desorbing fuel is higher, fully checking discharging of the fuel vapor even in repeated halt-to-start process of an internal combustion engine.
