To simply and securely produce a functional material having photocatalytic performance that excels in photocatalytic performance, and has useful germicidal and deodorizing properties by surface-treating a member having a synthetic resin-containing surface with a solvent for the synthetic resin to soften the surface, and fixing photosemiconductive powder to the surface of the member.
This functional material having photocatalytic performance is produced by immersing a surface of a member (A) that has exposed surface which contains a synthetic resin (Al), such as thermoplastic resin, into an organic solvent (B) for Al, and making photosemiconductive powder (C) [for example, a photocatalyst composed of photosemiconductive powder (specifically anatase type of titanium dioxide, etc.) the surfaces of which are coated with a porous material] adhere to the surface of the member (A), and fixing the component (C) on to the member (A) with its surface exposed, or otherwise may be produced by imersing the surface of the member (A) into a suspension which contains components (C) and (B), and drying off the component (B) to fix the component (C) on to the member (A) with its surface exposed.
