PURPOSE: To obtain a novel ultrathin film useful as solar battery, photodiode, etc., having excellent photoelectric transfer function and photoconductivity, by accumulating a complex monomolecular film consisting of an amphipathic benzene conjugated compound, a dyestuff and a polyanion having absorption at the visible part.
CONSTITUTION: A complex monomolecular film consisting of (A) an amphipathic benzene conjugated compound [preferable example; compound shown by formula I (X is azobenzene, biphenyl or diphenylazomethyl; R1 is alkyl; R2 is tetraalkylammonium; R3 and R4 are ester bond or ether bond to link R1 and R2 to X)], (B) a dyestuff (e.g. Rhodamine, phthalocyanine, crystal violet or merocyanine) and (C) a polyanion (e.g. phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid, maleic acid, polystyrenesulfonic acid, polyacrylic acid and a salt thereof) is accumulated by Langmuir-Blodgett method to give an extremely thin film.
