To provide a functional polymer compound which is prepared from a conventionally available, highly efficient low-molecular weight material and cellulose which is an abundant biomass resource excellent in heat resistance as raw materials and serves as a fluorescent polymer material which is advantageous in a thin-film processing, and a method for preparing the same.
The functional polymer compound is a cellulose derivative in which at least some of hydrogens of hydroxy groups in a cellulose skeleton are replaced with carbazole derivative groups which are luminescent functional groups. The functional polymer compound is obtained by reacting a cellulose derivative in which a hydrogen of a hydroxy group at position 6 is replaced with a substituent capable of selectively reacting with a primary hydroxy group and a halogenated alkylcarbazole in a solvent.
