Abstract:
To provide low-cost means for generating a polymer that can be incorporated in the manufacture of rubber products such as tires.SOLUTION: Hydrogenated functionalized polymers include those in which a functionalized polydiene has been selectively hydrogenated at least along its polydiene portion to a predetermined level of saturation. The functionalized polydiene is the reaction product of a living anionic elastomer initiated with a particular functionalized lithium initiator, and the polymer is the reaction product of (1) a living anionic elastomer and a functional terminating agent, both of which produce a polymer having chains of structural formula (II). Each of the [polydienes] represents a polymer chain comprising at least one partially or fully hydrogenated diene monomer. R1 and R2 independently represent alkyl groups having 1 to 8 carbon atoms.SELECTED DRAWING: None
