Title:
FUNCTIONALLY GRADIENT MATERIAL COMPOSED OF LOW-MELTING POINT METAL AND OXIDE CERAMICS, AND ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2002309323
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide a functionally gradient material composed of aluminum or magnesium or the alloy thereof and oxide ceramics having a higher sintering temperature, and its manufacturing method.

The functionally gradient material is constituted of: a first layer composed of or composed essentially of oxide ceramics and formed on one surface side; a second layer composed essentially of low-melting-point metal selected between aluminum and magnesium or alloy thereof and formed on the other surface side; and a mixed layer in which the percentages of the components are changed stepwise or continuously and which is interposed between the first layer and the second layer. This functionally gradient material can be manufactured by mixing metal and metal hydroxide in unequal percentages, filling a die with the resultant mixture while changing the percentages continuously or stepwise, and carrying out compacting by pressure sintering, such as discharge plasma sintering.
