Title:
FURNACE WALL ELECTRODE FOR DIRECT CURRENT ELECTRICAL METALLURGICAL FURNACE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3240191
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent generation of an electric arc by the presence of melted lead emerging from scrap by providing an annular member made of low melting point metal in the periphery of a metal rod of an electrode, and by extending the annular member into a ring-shaped space between a cooling sleeve and the annular member by melting it when used.
CONSTITUTION: An inner diameter o a copper sleeve 9 having a circulation circuit for cooling water is nearly equal to an outer diameter of an end member 6, and is larger than a diameter of a metal rod 1 as an electrode. Therefore, a space 14 is left between the sleeve 9 and the rod 1. A ring 15 made of low melting point heavy metal, preferably lead, having a volume equal to or larger than that of the space 14 is provided in the upper portion of the sleeve 9. When the electrode is fed and heated, the ring 15 is rapidly melted to charge the space 14 and to create an electrically or thermally good contact condition between the rod 1 and the sleeve 9. The lead entering from scrap into the interstice between a furnace wall 2 and the rod 1 is added to the melted lead, however, the electrical contact condition is not adversely affected.
