A gamma correction apparatus includes: an operation circuit (9) for setting a type of gamma correction; a selection means (7) for selecting gamma correction data and an exposure target value based on the set type of gamma correction; a gamma correction circuit (21) which performs gamma correction using the selected gamma correction data; and an exposure control means (7) for controlling exposure so as to be the selected exposure target value, wherein the gamma correction data and the exposure target value include at least standard first gamma correction data and a first target value of exposure and include second gamma correction data for improving contrast in a low-luminance portion and a second target value of exposure, the second target value being higher than the first target value, and the second gamma correction data including the same data as the first gamma correction data in a preset low-luminance side input range and including data obtained by multiplying the first gamma correction data by a value obtained by dividing the first target value by the second target value, in the other input range.
