Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a gap following type magnetic length meter capable of accurately measuring even with the variation of the gap between a magnetic scale and a head.
CONSTITUTION: A magnetic scale 1 is formed with a series of magnetic poles 2 magnetized regularly with a constant pitch, a head 3 is moved with a gap from the magnetic scale 1, electric signal with amplitude corresponding to the crossing with the magnetic flux from the magnetic poles 2 is generated from the head 3 and the signal from the head 3 is counted with a counter 4 to magnetically measure the length along the magnetic scale 1. By measuring the gap between the magnetic scale 1 and the head 3 with a distance meter 6 and controlling the magnetic flux measurement span for the head 3 with a span controlling means 5 following the change of the output of the distance meter 6, magnetic saturation in the head 3 is prevented even with the case of increase and decrease of the said gap and accurate length measurement is assured.
