To provide a garbage treating apparatus in which garbage can be treated smoothly by preventing fine garbage from being retained around an introduction port of a dehydration screen to prevent fine garbage from being stuck to the introduction port or to prevent the introduction port from being clogged by the stuck fine garbage.
This garbage treating apparatus is constituted so that the crushed garbage introduced from the introduction port 31 into the dehydration screen 3 is dehydrated while being conveyed upward by the operation of a conveying screw 5 and discharged from a discharge port 33 arranged at the upper end of the screen 3. A water level sensor 6 is arranged at the position of the prescribed height in the screen 3 so that a detecting part of the sensor 6 is brought into sliding contact with the tip of a screw part 52 of the screw 5. The screw 5 is operated for the prescribed time on the basis of the result detected by the sensor 6.
