PURPOSE: To promote re-atomization and vaporization of cooling water not vaporized and to improve heat-exchange performance between intermediate- temperature gas and spray cooling water by providing a porous plate at least in one stage by which a cooling water vaporizing chamber is vertically partitioned in a position below the injection nozzle of a cooling water sprayer.
CONSTITUTION: Intermediate-temperature gas G entering a cooling water vaporizing chamber 4 through a gas inlet 2 is cooled by direct contact with cooling water W sprayed through a cooling water sprayer 5 and discharged through a gas outlet 3 through a porous plate 8. Meanwhile, cooling water W makes contact with the gas G, a part of the cooling water is vaporized, and the rest is discharged as drain D through a drain 12 after the flow of it through the porous plate 8. The gas G effecting inflow through the gas inlet 2 is accelerated owing to the rapid decrease of a passage area when the gas flows through the holes of the porous plate 8. In this case, the gas G is cooled as a result of the gas making contact with a film of the drain D flowing down through the edges of hole parts and ruptures the film of the drain D for re- atomization. As a result, the surface area of the drain D is increased and apt to vaporize.
