To solve the problems of equipment as a whole requiring high construction cost and the operation and maintenance of the equipment requiring much labor and skill due to complicated treatment flow in a kiln method and a fluidized bed method where operation costs are low, because heat possessed by refuse is used for melting the refuse, without having to use auxiliary combustion materials but pretreatments, such as crushing, drying or the like are required to complicate the treatment process.
A gasification melting furnace for combustible refuse comprises supplying combustible refuse and cokes to a shaft kiln 2, burning and gasifying the combustible refuse in an atmosphere of stoichiometric air volume or less, with respect to the combustible refuse, and discharging the residuum as molten slag outside the furnace; and the furnace also comprises a plasma torch 11 for blowing hot air toward a coke layer 25 formed on the furnace bottom, and air supply means 3, 4 for blowing air toward a layer 26 of combustible refuse deposited on the layer 25.
