To provide an electronic watch, in which irregularities in the operation of a hand can be suppressed to a minimum, and to provide a gear rotational- position decision mechanism which is suitably used for the electronic watch.
The gear rotational-position decision mechanism, which acts as a hand-position decision mechanism 2 for the electronic watch 1 comprises a gear rotational-position determining mechanism 14 which is an object gear 15 to be stepup-turned and driven by a driving gear 16 and which is equipped with magnetic material patterns 20 composed of magnetic material regions 21 formed at equal angle intervals regarding the direction of rotation and a magnetic material body 30, for stoppage position regulation, which is constituted so as to make the magnetostatic attractive force act on the regions 21 and which is arranged at a position, capable of selectively facing one region 21 from among the patterns 20. In the electronic watch 1, the object gear 15 in the mechanism 2 is turned and driven by a stepper motor to make the hand turned.
