PURPOSE: To simplify the operation movements by unifying steering-related members and gear shift-related members by providing an operating rod which is engageable with the engagement members for the gear shift operation.
CONSTITUTION: An operating rod 21 is provided in such a manner that the rod is inserted into the supporting pipe 7 above a tilt pivot axis 6 and is engageable with each of the engagement part of the multiple engagement members which are provided to perform the shifting operation of the shifting mechanism 29 by the rotation of the rod. The operating rod 21 is slidable in the direction of the pipe axis and is rotatable around the axis. The gear shift operation mechanism is constructed under the steering wheel 8 to perform the sliding and rotating movements so that a shift lever 19 and the operating rod which is operated by it can be tilted unitarily with the supporting pipe 7 which supports a steering shaft 9 to allow the simplified tilting operation.
