PURPOSE: To enable the controllability of gear shifting to be satisfactory, by electrically detecting the position of gear shift, and by digitally displaying the position with an LCD (received light displaying element).

CONSTITUTION: There are provided a group of switches SW1 for detecting the gear shift positions of neutral N, first to fifth of a main transmission and a group of switches SW2 for detecting the range positions of high speed H and low speed of an auxiliary transmission. The output of the switches SW1 are delivered to a decorder/driver 2 after they are binarily coded by a BCD converting circuit 1, are subjected to exclusive OR with outputs from an error detecting circuit 3 and a clock generator circuit 5, and therefore, an LCD1 consisting of 9 segments is actuated for displaying a shift position. Meanwhile, the outputs of the switches SW2 are delivered into an OR circuit 6, and is subjected to exclusive OR with the clock for driving an LCD2.
