A work 1 is fixed on a table 11 through a fitting jig 12, a gear hob 15 is fitted to a hob head 14, and then the table 11 is rotated to rotate the work 1. A hob shaft 13 is rotated in such a manner that the peripheral speed (cutting speed) of the blade part of the hob 15 is from 120m/min to 400m/min, both inclusive. Thus, the hob 15 and the work 1 are relatively rotated to be dry-cut without using a cutting fluid, thereby creating a toothform on the work 1. Accordingly, the toothform can be created on the work 1 without the generation of heat cracks in the blade part of the hob 15 in a short time.
