Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a continually variable transmission by arranging a fluid coupling having an impeller driven from a power source and connected to an input sheave of a low speed ratio change drive mechanism, and a turbine connected to an input sheave of a variable speed ratio belt drive mechanism. CONSTITUTION: A fluid coupling 20 having an impeller 22 connected to a power source and a turbine 24 fluid mechanically connected to the impeller, a ring gear 25, sun gear 58, and a planetary gear set including a first planet pinion 56 engaged with the sun gear, a second planetary gear set engaged with pinion 56 and ring gear 50, a pinion carrier 54 rotatably supporting the pinion set 56, 60, are arranged. Further, a first drive system including sheave 30, 32 respectively drive-able connected to the turbine 24 and the sun gear 58, and a belt 36, a second drive system including sheave 38, 42 respectively connected to the impeller 22 and ring gear 50, and a chain 40, a low speed ratio clutch 48, a high speed ratio clutch 52, are arranged.
