Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide compositions and methods to treat an oral cavity surface with a peracid-based benefit agent.SOLUTION: A composition separately comprises a source of peroxygen, e.g. peracetic acid, and CE-7 carbohydrate esterase (perhydrolase) having perhydrolytic activity. A peroxyacid is enzymatically produced from a carboxylate ester substrate in the mouth by the enzyme. A peroxyacid benefit agent can be used for bleaching, whitening, disinfection, bleaching, deodorization, and reduction or removing of a biofilm on the surface of the oral cavity, and combinations thereof. In addition, perhydrolysis activity can be targeted to the oral cavity surface using a fusion protein comprising the perhydrolase which is coupled to a peptidic component having affinity for an oral cavity surface, either directly or through an optional linker.SELECTED DRAWING: None
