EXAMPLE: Benzylidene-β-genipin maltopentaoside.
USE: A reagent for the determination of α-amylase activity in human body fluid. It has excellent affinity and reactivity with α-amylase and is insensitive to the action of conjugated enzymes α- and β-glucosidase and glucoamylase.
PREPARATION: Geniposide separated from fruit of Cape jasmine is made to react with cyclodextrin under the action of cyclodextrin glucanotransferase originated from a microbial strain of Bacillus genus to obtain a genipin maltooligosaccharide of formula II, which is reacted with a carbonyl compound of e.g. formula III in an inert solvent.
