Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a thin type getter which can be arranged in a narrow space in a fluorescent character display tube.
CONSTITUTION: An envelope 5 is composed of an anode board 2, a cathode board 3 and a spacer member 4. A field emission element 8 situated on an inside surface of the cathode board 3 has a cathode electrode 9, an insulating layer 11, a gate electrode 12 and a conical emitter 14. An anode electrode 15 is formed on an inside surface of the anode board so as to be opposed to the field emission element. In the corner of the cathode board, a getter layer 20 of a pattern having an opening part 21 is formed on an insulating layer. Thud etching is carried out on the insulating layer through the opening part 21, and the insulating layer comes into contact with a part of an under surface of the getter layer. The getter layer is heated and evaporated, and a getter substance is evaporated on the inside surface of the anode board, and is formed as a getter film. When the getter layer is heated, heat becomes hard to escape to the insulating layer. The getter layer is thin, and can be arranged in a narrow inside part of a fluorescent character display tube using the field emission element as an electron source.
