Title:
GLASS BODY FOR OPTICAL FIBER AND OPTICAL FIBER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3424711
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfactorily suppress absorption at 0.63μm by specifying the concn. of Ge2+ in GeO2-SiO2 glass contained in the core part of a combined glass body for an optical fiber.
SOLUTION: The concn. of Ge2+ in GeO2-SiO2 glass contained in the core part of a glass body for an optical fiber is regulated to 1.1×10-9-2.8×10-9mol/ mm3. The occurrence of defects in glass is suppressed and absorption at 0.63μm can be satisfactorily suppressed by optimizing conditions in production of glass (conditions in deposition and sintering of fine glass particles) and controlling absorbance at 5.16eV. As a result, the objective glass body excellent in hydrogen resistance and almost free from defects is obtd. The hydrogen resistance of an optical fiber made of the glass body can be estimated in the state of the glass without evaluating the absorption loss of the optical fiber on the short wavelength side and the evaluation of the absorption loss can be easily and efficiently carried out.
