This additive comprises a non-cross-linked reaction product from (A) an amine of the formula NR1R2H [R1 and R2 are each hydrocarbyl or a hydroxyalkyl of the formula (R3 and R4 are each H or hydrocarbyl)] or the formula D-(NGH)y (D is a 2-30C polyvalent organic group; G is H, hydrocarbyl or a hydroxyalkyl of the above-mentioned formula; (y) is ≥2, etc.) and (B) a carboxylic acid of the formula B-(COOH)z (B is a direct bond between two COOH groups or monovalent or polyvalent organic group; (z) is 1-5, etc.) or a reactive equivalent thereto; wherein, the reaction product has at least two hydrocarbyl groups, each or which in turn bears about 12 to about 30 carbon atoms. A coating composition can be obtained using this additive and a film-forming resin.
