To obtain the subject new derivative comprising a gluconopyranoside derivative having a substituted aromatic group, having polymerizability and useful for production, etc., of a polymer having α-D-glucopyranoside with a function recognizing a biological material such as protein on the side chain.
This new glyconopyranoside derivative is represented by formula I (X is NO2, NH2, NH-C=O or NC; Ac is acetyl) and used in production, etc., for polymer compounds having α-Dgluconopyranoside useful a substance recognizing a biological material such as protein and containing a recurring unit represented by formula II (R is H or acetyl) as the side chain. The compound is obtained by using p-nitrophenyl-α-D-gluconopyranoside as a starting raw material, subjecting the compound to o-acetylation with acetic anhydride and as necessary, reducing nitro group to lead to amino group and further converting the amino group to N-formyl group and isocyano group.
