To obtain a new derivative which is a glucose or a mannose derivative labeled with a radioactive or nonradioactive iodine and useful as a radiodiagnostic agent, etc., capable of reflecting the sugar uptake by a sugar metabolic and a sugar transport systems of an animal cell, especially in the cell.
This new glucose or mannose derivative is represented by the formula (R1 is OH or methoxy; R2 is H or a halogen; R3 is H, OH or a halogen; R4 is a radioactive or a nonradioactive iodine) (e.g. 2,6-dideoxy-2-fluoro-6-iodo-D- glucose) and useful for a radiodiagnosis, diagnosis of a morbid state of an organ or a tissue and detection, etc., of tumor reflecting the sugar uptake by a sugar metabolic and a sugar transport systems of an animal cell including a human, especially in the cell with a sugar transport carrier present in a cell membrane. The compound is obtained by triacetylating 2-fluoro-2-deoxyglucose with acetic anhydride, then reacting the resultant compound with imidazole, triphenylphosphine and iodine, carrying out the iodination and subsequently deacetylating the prepared compound.
