To improve durability, such as cutting resistance and scratching flaw resistance, and to lessen the deformation after impact by compounding fibrous aluminum boride whiskers with a core material.
This golf ball has a solid core contg. a thermoplastic resin or thermoplastic elastomer. More particularly, this ball is adequate as a one- piece golf ball consisting of the solid core itself as a golf ball. Polyester elastomer, polyurethane elastomer, etc., are used as the thermoplastic elastomer. Fibrous aluminum boride whiskers which usually have an average fiber length of 5 to 50μm and an average fiber diameter of 0.1 to 2μm are preferably used as the whiskers to be compounded. The whiskers subjected to a surface treatment particularly with a silane coupling agent prior to use are more preferably used. The core material contains the fibrous aluminum boride whiskers at 1 to 20 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. thermoplastic resin or thermoplastic elastomer.
